I keep my goodies in the jar.

Often I get emails from bands who make good music, but my perpetual blogging laziness means they often don't make it to these pages. Now I am attempting to change that, because there is no point in having this email unless I actually post the music that I like. So I'm starting with these great young bands, who can consider themselves the inspiration for my laziness overhaul. On one side lie The Overdubs. They originally contacted me with the common ground of liking Bon Iver, which caught my interest. While there is more traditional American indie-boy vocals in their music, don't let that turn you off. The quietness that is so capturing in Bon Iver's For Emma echoes a lot through The Overdubs' song Orange County, something distracting in the background that somehow pulls you into the vocals. I'm also pretty sure it's the only song about OC with a banjo in it.

On the other side, Bridges and Powerlines believe they have found some sort of combination between Spoon, Wolf Parade and Thunderbirds Are Now!. Now any band that does this is certainly welcome around these parts and I would say there is definitely a middle ground between the latter two bands that Bridges and Powerlines wholly embodies, with a lot of Spoon in the vocals. The song Middle Child is certainly reminiscent of a Wolf Parade song. It has some sort of older quality about it, like it's a song that's been a long time coming, well thought out, pieced together and tried and tested just enough times to make its intent so clear without over-development.
